International Young Composers Academy Ticino
Lugano (CH)
After focusing on the amplified ensemble (2021), the percussion ensemble (2022) and the interplay of voice and instruments (2023), this year’s edition of the International Young Composers Academy Ticino will spotlight string quartets and instrumental hybrid formats while celebrating the vibrant New York new music scene overseas through the lens of two of its most renowned representatives: JACK Quartet and International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE).
The 2024 Academy will be led by ICE Artistic Director, the chairholder of Music Composition at the Columbia University and acclaimed composer George Lewis, composer Farzia Fallah, and the Artistic Director of the International Young Composers Academy, recent Rome Prize winner Oscar Bianchi.
Twelve to eighteen young composers will be selected from 200 applicants. The Academy, which is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, consists of two main parts: the theoretical part, which includes seminars, lectures, presentations and individual lessons, and the practical part, in which the composed music is rehearsed, supervised and premiered.
