Luigi Nono in Freiburg

2024 marks the 100th anniversary of Luigi Nono’s birth. Nono’s special relationship with the Freiburg Experimentalstudio, the man Luigi Nono and his music will be celebrated on this occasion. A two-day festival is planned, consisting of concerts, a film screening and an exhibition. The interplay of music, the latest audio technology, exhibition and knowledge transfer in this form is a unique event in Freiburg. In particular, students and pupils will be introduced to Nono’s oeuvre through multimedia.
On September 27, 2024, two small-scale works will be presented at SWR Studio Freiburg: A Pierre with Roberto Fabbriciani and Andrea Nagy and Post-prae-ludium No. 1 per Donau with József Bazsinka. The exhibition Luigi Nono 1924–1990: Maestro di Suoni e silenzi will also be opened in the foyer of the SWR Studio Freiburg on this evening. It not only shows Nono’s work in the Experimentalstudio, but also provides an overview of his entire oeuvre. The exhibition will be open to the public for two weeks. The evening will be rounded off with a screening of Thomas von Steinaecker’s new film about Luigi Nono, which is being produced by SWR and ARTE and also involves the SWR Experimentalstudio.
On September 28, 2024, there will be a concert with a larger cast in the Pauluskirche in Freiburg. The French ensemble Les Métaboles will play under the direction of conductor Léo Warynski with flautist Matteo Cesari to perform Luigi Nono’s Das atmende Klarsein together with the SWR Experimentalstudio. The program will be complemented by choral works by Orlando di Lasso, reflecting Nono’s interest in medieval choral music.
