Milano Musica Festival
Milano Musica (IT)
The 34th Milano Musica Festival (MMF) is a celebration of the artistic vision of Francesco Filidei, marking the highly anticipated premiere of his new opera Il nome della rosa, based on the novel by Umberto Eco. A co-commission between Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, and Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, and supported by SIAE-Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori, this work is the centrepiece of the festival.
The festival features several key performances, starting with the opening concert at La Scala on April 26, a special program dedicated to Filidei, performed by Ensemble Intercontemporain and Les Métaboles. On May 2, the OSN Rai concert will include the Italian premiere of Aureliano Cattaneo’s violin concerto and the world premiere of Stefano Gervasoni’s violin concerto. The Italian premiere of Filidei’s Viola Concerto will be held on May 15-16, performed by Antoine Tamestit and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. The festival also includes a series of organ concerts on April 29, May 22, and May 29, exploring Filidei’s instrumental music, with performances by Hampus Lindmann and Filidei himself.
To facilitate cultural access and introduce young people to contemporary music, Milano Musica has developed educational programs for high school workshops and study days with the Universities of Milan and Pavia. Furthermore, MMF will extend its impact through outreach programs for disadvantaged communities, including a special concert by a choir from San Vittore prison.
With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the 34th Milano Musica Festival’s diverse program will further deepen the understanding and appreciation of Filidei’s significant contributions to contemporary music.
