Neue Musik Rümlingen 2025
(CH)
The Festival Neue Musik Rümlingen and the Festival Hors Normes will take place together on 7 and 8 June 2025 at Lac de Joux in the Vaud Jura. While Hors Normes is responsible for the evening concerts, Neue Musik Rümlingen offers concerts, installations and audio walks in the area around the beautiful lake on two afternoons.
This 35th edition of the Festival Neue Musik Rümlingen, as has become a biennial tradition since 2019, is not taking place in Rümlingen, but outside – at Lac de Joux.
On Saturday 7 June, a multi-part concert afternoon can be experienced in the church of L’Abbaye and on the nearby lakeshore next to the church. The first part of the concert will be played and sung by the ensemble Mixtura (shawm and accordion) and the vocal ensemble Thélème (four male voices). The programme includes Renaissance music and new music, some of which is inspired by early music. A work by the Swiss-Japanese composer Ezko Kikoutchi will be premiered, bringing the two ensembles together.
The second part of the concert will take place outside the church. A purely electronic music will lead the audience outside and with wind inventions it will then head towards the lake shore. French artist Sébastien Roux will place an installation with electronic music at the old tank barrier that is still standing there. After a break, the concert will continue in the church with a programme built around the voice of Mimi Doulton, a young English singer. The programme includes works for voice and electronics, a new piece by Jannik Giger for voice, saxophone and keyboard (with the FX Kollektiv, Alejandro Olivan and Carlos Gil-Gonzalo), the duo Is it? for voice and saxophone by Thomas Kessler, and a solo piece for saxophone and electronics by Tobias Krebs.
On Sunday 8 June, there will be a walk along the ridge that runs along the entire lake shore from Le Pont to Le Lieu. This slight elevation extends along the entire lakeside. Right at the edge of the village of Le Pont, which lies at the upper end of the lake, the path climbs slightly in the forest to a small plateau that offers many different venues with pastures, sinkholes, isolated Jura firs and forest. The three-kilometre route is to be equipped with four stations of 30-minute concerts/performances. The two ensembles/collectifs ensemBle baBel from Lausanne and KlangLab from Basel are each responsible for two of these performances. The walk ends at La roche fendue, down by the lake at Le Lieu. From there, the audience is taken back to the starting point at Le Pont by boat, accompanied by music.
The Festival Neue Musik Rümlingen is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
