New Music Days
İzmir (TR)
In İzmir, a metropolis of four million people, more and more art events are held every year, becoming an active part of the Turkish cultural scene. On the other hand, the occurrence of new music performances is still very limited. The İzmir New Music Days play a crucial role as a bridge between New Music and the cultural scene in İzmir by presenting important musicians and ensembles that focus on the performance of new repertoire, mainly from the wider Europe.
The festival was initiated by the Goethe-Institut İzmir and composer Füsun Köksal and is the only ongoing festival of contemporary music in Turkey. Every year since 2019 (except 2020), the festival has presented concerts, master classes and workshops by invited musicians and composers, conveying the importance of music to a wider audience and enriching the artistic experience. The current edition of the festival will take place in April 2023 at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center and is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
The scheduled programme includes three concerts, a composition seminar, a composition masterclass and two workshops where the works of young composers will be discussed and performed by the invited ensembles.
