rainy days 2024
Philharmonie Luxembourg (LU)
rainy days has been an annual festival for new music at the Philharmonie Luxembourg since 2005. 2024 is dedicated to the theme of extremes and explores the boundaries of contemporary music. With outstanding performers, an aesthetically diverse programme, a variety of formats and many cultural cooperation partners, it forms the centre of new music in the Saar/Lor/Lux region and beyond.
During the 5 days of the festival, the Philharmonie becomes a forum for exchange and new experiences. The audience can immerse themselves in the themes presented: from micro-concerts to installations, from multimedia to pure sound, from one breath to a 12-hour uninterrupted performance, from music for younger ears to late-night noise gigs. This year, no fewer than 24 new works/(co-)commissions will be performed in around 35 events!
The Colombian composer Michèle Abondano is writing a new work for the Luxembourg duo Cantoreggi/Gaggero. The Luxembourg Philharmonic will première two new commissions: Tonia Ko’s concerto for bubble wrap and the concerto Coming up for air, which combines a variety of “one-breath” pieces for flute and large orchestra. The Explore Ensemble and the Korean cellist Okkyung Lee will work together on a new programme, and the German ensemble Unruhe will collaborate with the French ensemble Orbis, to name just a few examples. In addition to these new works, the programme includes some contemporary classics that fit thematically – an introduction for new ears and a delight for the usual listeners.
rainy days 2024 is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
