Rebecca Saunders: Dust III

The Spanish premiere of Rebecca Saunders’ Dust III, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, is part of the concert series Sampler Series by the percussion ensemble FRAMES at L’Auditori de Barcelona. In addition to Saunders’ Dust III, the concert includes the world premiere of a new work for percussion quartet and string quartet by Catalan composer Montserrat Lladó.

FRAMES Percussion, a percussion ensemble from Barcelona, has set itself the goal of giving the Spanish premiere of Dust III, one of the most important works written for percussion in recent years. After the premiere of the piece at the final concert of the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music in August 2021, the ensemble creates a new version for six percussionists as part of the Sampler Series of the Auditori de Barcelona. For the project, Rebecca Saunders and Ramon Gardella, a percussionist of the ensemble who was involved in the premiere of the piece, are working together. They are developing a new version and adapting it to the space of the Auditori de Barcelona, with different percussion sets around the audience to provide an immersive listening experience. In addition to the concert, there will be a sound research workshop with percussion students from the Escola Superior de Música de Barcelona and a masterclass on the music of Rebecca Saunders, whose music is rarely performed in Spain.
