SPACE21 Youth Workshops

SPACE21 Sound Gallery, Slemani (IQ)

As part of its 10th festival in Slemani, SPACE21 will offer a new series of workshops for young people aged 14–21. These workshops will invite participants to explore creative listening, sound-making, and performance, working directly with festival artists and educators.

All workshops will be hands-on and exploratory. Activities may include listening walks that investigate Slemani’s urban sound environment, improvisation sessions, composition exercises, and sound-making or tool-building using simple materials and accessible technologies. These approaches aim to make contemporary sound art more approachable and engaging.

With an emphasis on experimentation over perfection, the workshops are designed to foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence in young participants. The program will culminate in a youth showcase performance as part of the SPACE21 Festival. Developed in collaboration with local schools and community partners, the workshops aim to ensure that all young people across Slemani have access to the program.

The SPACE21 Youth Workshops are supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
