Suena Festival 2024
SUENA – Verein zur Förderung und Verbreitung neuer Musik, Vienna (AT)
The third edition of the Suena Festival for contemporary Ibero-American music, which will take place in Vienna between April 25 and May 3, 2024, will focus on a very renowned composer: Alberto Posadas. Over the years, the Castilian composer has developed a special musical style that is constantly admired by other composers, performers and audiences. Particularly noteworthy is his exploration of meta-models, which will be presented in their various facets in the Suena Festival program.
The term metamodel refers to a superordinate model that describes aspects of subordinate models and their shaping. A well-known example of Alberto Posadas’ approach to composing with metamodels is his cycle for string quartet Liturgia Fractal, in which he takes up fractal models. Specifically, it is about tree-like processes that occur frequently in nature. Each segment of the organism depends on the situation and the size of the previous segment.
Nine countries will be represented in the festival’s program, reflecting the diversity of the proposals and the uniqueness of the works (four of which are world premieres) of the 26 participating composers. A wide range of high artistic quality will be presented by ensembles and soloists such as PHACE, Myriam Garcia Fidalgo, Álvaro Collao León, Trio Feedback, Dimitrios Polisoidis, Argo Kollectiv and students of the Vienna University of Music.
In this third edition, the festival will once again offer the audience, artists and cultural professionals a place for togetherness, reflection and listening, focusing on the exchange between Ibero-America and Austria. The Suena Festival 2024 is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
