Tonality Theater
Neue Klangkunst, Munich (DE)
Tonality Theater is a series of interdisciplinary contemporary sound art works that combine music, sound art with visual, film, spatial art, performance and installation in a single work. The focus is on works by the composers and instrumentalists Christian Mason, Uri Caine and Gareth Davis, in collaboration with Ensemble Recherche and Octandre Ensemble, among others.
The exhibitions take place in Pavilion 333 on the east side of the Pinakothek der Moderne in collaboration with Neue Klangkunst and the TUM Center for Culture and Art. Pavilion 333 is a wooden-glass cube, a special kind of art space between the Pinakothek der Moderne, Galerie Wittenbrink, Galerie Thomas and Museum Brandhorst. It is an art space in the middle of Munich’s art district Kunstareal, where citizens and visitors stroll. The aim of Tonality Theater is to enable sound art, interdisciplinary works with composition and the narrative power of sounds; it is about intermedial art forms in which sounds merge with other arts and media to form a complete work.
The sound installations are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
