Brian Ferneyhough

Building upon the post-World War II avant-garde dream of structuring music from the smallest element to the largest whole, Brian Ferneyhough has consistently developed a completely independent music that is both highly differentiated and highly immediate. In terms of the technical and musical demands placed on performers, this delicate and fragile music explores the limits of the imaginable and the feasible with each new work. As an artist who, in his belief in the possibility of the musically new and unheard, has never allowed himself to be distracted from developing the structural approach, Ferneyhough has set standards and opened up new horizons with his multifaceted oeuvre.
