Commission to Esteban Correa, Cristian Morales & Felipe Pinto d’Aguiar
Fundación Cultural Sociedad Bach La Serena (CL)
Made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, this project supports the cultural exchange between Ireland and Chile through contemporary music. It involves the commission of three new works from renowned Chilean composers—Esteban Correa, Cristian Morales, and Felipe Pinto d’Aguiar —which will be premiered by the Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble of Ireland in a tour through Chile. The program will also include works by Irish composers, furthering the cross-cultural dialogue.
The composers represent three geographical regions of Chile—the north, centre, and south—and are affiliated with leading universities in Chile’s contemporary music scene. Each composer has explored themes of cultural identity and territory in their works, such as the ancestral elements in Pinto d’Aguiar’s Wünelfe, the political undertones in Morales’s Funa, and the literary inspirations in Correa’s Canto al anochecer. The performances will take place at each composer’s respective university, along with workshops and talks for students and the public.
This project seeks to impact the Chilean music scene by diversifying its musical repertoire. As a bridge between two musical traditions, it will not only draw in new audiences but encourage future artistic opportunities in both countries.
