Commission to Manfred Trojahn
Mozartfest Würzburg (DE)
With around 85 events in Würzburg and the surrounding area, Germany’s oldest Mozartfest will once again join the ranks of the major classical music festivals of international renown in 2025 – and at the same time stand out from its competitors thanks to its substantial and consistent content. More than ever, the Mozartfest programme is realising the claim that the classical cultural heritage, and in particular the music of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, is a source of inspiration for dealing with pressing contemporary issues.
In 2025, a composer portrait is an integral part of the festival programme and is dedicated to the compositional work of Manfred Trojahn. In addition to the performance of works such as Libera me, Verpasste Gelegenheiten, Morgenröte, Introduction and faster movement, among others, Trojahn will compose a concert piece for the Mozartfest that takes into account the combination of instruments that the Artistes étoiles of the Mozartfest bring to the programme.
Trojahn calls his approx. 20-minute work in three movements for viola, piano and chamber orchestra Trame lunari, which, in the performance by the two dedicatees and Ensemble Resonanz, will be both the programmatic anchor of the opening concerts at the Würzburger Residenz (23 and 24 May) and of the entire festival season. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has made the commission possible.
‘Mozart has always challenged me, he has defined my life.’ (Manfred Trojahn)
