Commissions to Milica Djordjević, Jieun Jeong & Alberto Posadas
Trio Abstrakt, Cologne (DE)
In the 2025/26 season, Trio Abstrakt will award three commissions to Milica Djordjević and Alberto Posadas, as well as to the emerging composer Jieun Jeong, made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
Trio Abstrakt has close artistic relationships with the three composers, with the work being based on carefully selected project ideas. In all three cases, the focus is on creating extensive works that exploit the trio’s sonic potential. The aim is to develop high-quality masterpieces for the trio’s repertoire and for the general repertoire of the saxophone, percussion and piano instrumentation.
Milica Djordjević’s new work will be premiered at the Milano Musica festival in May 2026. The creation process includes several tryouts with the Cologne-based composer to develop a coordinated set of instruments. The work explores different types of energy and presents a slow movement that initially appears static but comes to life through small frictions. In the music, explosive power unfolds through powerful passages, while in other moments sparks fly. These sparks create light and fire the imagination.
Alberto Posadas’ new work will be premiered on 26 May 2025 at the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical Madrid and on 30 May 2025 at the Mostra Sonora Sueca festival. Thematically, the work deals with kintsukuroi (‘gold repair’), a special technique for repairing ceramics. The trio reflects on fragile sound material that gains cohesion through contrast and creates its own routes.
Jieun Jeong’s new work will be premiered on 26 May 2026 at the Wiener Konzerthaus as part of Nouvelles Aventures. Further concerts in Cologne and abroad are planned. The work with Trio Abstrakt aims to define and understand paths where sound materials could lead. The focus is not on new sounds, but on exploring new forms. The investigation of sounds without clear backgrounds and the creation of diverse relationships are at the centre of the creative process. In the collaboration, water is considered a sonically concrete material. The different forms of water – solid, liquid, gaseous – share the same core. Exploring the sonic relationships between water and instruments will be a central point of the new piece.
