Festival Ensemble(s) 2024

Paris (FR)

In the fifth edition of the Ensemble(s) festival, the concept of notation or notation(s) takes centre stage. In what way is this concept constitutive of our musical practice? To what extent does it contain within itself and for artists a special relationship to sounds, but also a relationship to others? To what extent does notation ultimately embody the concept of writing and thus a certain form of engagement within society: addressing the question of writing means taking the side of reflection, of thinking, of a certain form of participation in the sensible. It is about revealing, if not understanding, the processes that take place in the musical imagination; it is about trying to make sound visible; it is about entering the sphere of music, an art that is so abstract and yet so concrete.

As usual, the Ensemble(s) festival will open with a concert by the five founding ensembles of the festival (2e2m, Cairn, Court-circuit, Multilatérale, Sillages), followed by six individual concerts by each of these ensembles and the invited ensemble, this year the Linea Ensemble. Since its inception, the festival has endeavoured to make contemporary classical music accessible to the younger generation. As part of the festival, various activities are organised for music students at several conservatories in the region, such as concerts, workshops and commissions.

The Ensemble(s) Festival 2024 is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
