Four Commissions

Lange//Berweck//Lorenz, Berlin (DE)

The 1970s to mid-1980s were a heyday of live electronic music using synthesizers. The new instruments promised a future in which electroacoustic music would now no longer be played from tape alone, but performed on stage in real time. Perhaps the first analogue and the subsequent first digital generation of synthesizers were still too clumsy and buggy: synthesizers disappeared from the stages again. It was not until the Berlin trio Lange//Berweck//Lorenz reconstructed and performed Bernard Parmegiani’s epic Stries for three synthesizers and tape in collaboration with the Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe and the Groupe de Recherches Musicales Paris with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation that the synthesizer returned to the stages of New Music.

As part of the Re*vi*si*ter project, Christina Kubisch, Thomas Kessler, Pierre Jodlowski and Denis Dufourt compose four new works for the synthesiser trio Lange//Berweck//Lorenz. The four commissions are made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

Re*vi*si*ter traces an arc from the beginnings of synthesizers to the present day and, through the new possibilities of live electronics, allows a whole new view of the future then and the present now to emerge.
