impuls. 14th international Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music
impuls, Graz (AT)
This year sees the 14th edition of impuls, the International Ensemble and Composers’ Academy for Contemporary Music, in Graz. Intensive collaboration between composers and interpreters, as well as highly specialised coaching, are of central importance here. In 2025, the academy is open to composers, sound artists, singers, musicians, as well as existing chamber music formations and ensembles. During the period from 17 to 28 February 2025, compositional, instrumental-technical and interpretative questions will be explored by all participants in various constellations.
With the international impuls composition competition, which is not only associated with commissions from Klangforum Wien, but also with an in-depth accompanying programme for the young composers, impuls also supports selected young composers outside of the academy.
impuls also sees it as its mission to make contemporary music accessible to a wider audience. In February 2025, the impuls Festival will take place for the 9th time, with a variety of daily public events around the impuls Academy. The Academy opens up to the city. For 12 days, Graz becomes a place to see and hear international contemporary music in the form of concerts, artist talks, discussions, lectures and unorthodox formats such as the impuls MinuteConcerts at venues away from the usual concert business.
This year’s edition is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
