KONTAKTE 25

KONTAKTE 25 presents current international positions in electronic music and sound art. The festival brings together a wide range of currents in electroacoustic music and sound art, and over four days the entire Akademie der Künste building at Hanseatenweg and Pariser Platz in Berlin will be filled with concerts, performances, sound installations, discussions, lectures and workshops.

The festival is already considered by a wider audience to be one of Berlin’s most popular festivals for new music creations, which stand out in terms of content and their cosmopolitan, lively and participatory orientation. The aim of KONTAKTE is to act as an inclusive forum to encourage encounters and networking, to provide a breeding ground for creativity and to set new creative impulses with a focus on cross-genre productions.

After four successful editions of the festival in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022, KONTAKTE will be continued in 2025. With a focus on internationally networked projects that address both climate and sustainability issues (such as Fabián Panisello’s work CHANGE for ensemble, baritone and Japanese Noh soloist with current texts from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change)), as well as aspects of equality and cultural understanding in the face of global problems (such as Amen Feizabadis’s inclusive and interactive music theatre piece The Raree Show, with deaf performers with visual impairments), the festival sets programmatic accents that relate the relevance of artistic questions and processes to issues concerning society as a whole.

In 2022 and last year, radio formats were successfully tested in addition to the classic festival programme. The collaboration with the independent radio station Radio Woltersdorf/Radio Industry is to be continued in 2025. The programme also places a special emphasis on collaboration not only with individual artists, but also on collective forms of work, such as the composers’ collective ktonal for artistic research into AI, as well as decidedly the female* voices of electroacoustic music and sound art.
