Kosmos György Ligeti
Ruhr Piano Festival Foundation, Essen (DE)
The Ruhr Piano Festival and the pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard are celebrating the 100th birthday of György Ligeti with a jointly conceived series of concerts and educational projects. In various formats, Ligeti’s piano works from early youth pieces (including several first performances) to the late etudes will be presented, developed, creatively opened up and in some cases digitally processed. The aim is to make the richness of his complex music and world of thought tangible for different target groups, to pass on performer knowledge and to create new digital resources.
On three consecutive evenings in Bochum and Essen, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and other performers will present Ligeti’s piano works in various formats as part of the concert series Kosmos György Ligeti. In a piano recital, Pierre-Laurent Aimard will perform Ligeti’s 18 highly virtuosic Études pour piano. In a discussion concert, Aimard will focus on the development of Ligeti’s piano style. The second part of the event will be a conversation with the musicologist and Ligeti expert Martón Kerékfy about Ligeti’s Hungarian period and his early works. The evening will begin with a musical introduction to Musica ricercata, interpreted by primary and secondary school students from Duisburg Marxloh, who have been working with Ligeti’s piano collection in dance and music throughout the school year. The Kosmos György Ligeti concert series of the Ruhr Piano Festival is made possible by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
