Musiktheatertage Wien

(AT)

Musiktheatertage Wien is a contemporary music theatre festival that focuses on innovations and new connections between music, text, space and technology. Since 2015, around 10 productions with over 30 performances have taken place in Vienna every September. The festival offers in-house, guest and co-productions in the field of contemporary music theatre. New projects and compositions are commissioned and national and international composers are supported.

The festival from 18 to 28 September 2024 spans several venues such as Odeon Theater Vienna, St. Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna, Theater am Werk, Schloss Neugebäude, Reaktor Wien and public spaces in the city such as Yppenplatz or Neumann-Platz, which gives the program a contemporary overall aesthetic. The dramaturgy of the 2024 festival edition is geared towards diversity and expands the classical formal language canon of music theatre to include unconventional formats in atypical locations and technical innovations. Some of the productions that will be presented as part of the festival are The End of the World, Straßenwandler:in, Der Simmering, Butterfly Equation, Unchronia and Kollaposolige I-IV. The festival commissions and creates new projects and compositions and promotes national and international artists. It also makes use of the latest technologies such as augmented reality and immersive media to dissolve the visual boundaries between the real and the fictional.

The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the Musiktheatertage Wien 2024.
