Workshops Mixtur 2022

The project Workshops Mixtur 2022 consists of five international workshops for young musicians on composition, improvisation and performance, led by renowned artists and culminating in a final concert at the Mixtur Festival.

Mixtur is a non-profit organisation based in Barcelona whose aim is to contribute to the creation, pedagogy and promotion of contemporary music, sound art and multidisciplinary projects. Its main activity is the Mixtur Festival, founded in 2012, which includes concerts, discussion panels, sound installations, conferences, and workshops. It takes place in different cultural centres and auditoriums in Barcelona.

The workshop on composition and sound experimentation as part of the Mixtur 2022 workshops is divided into two modules. Participants register for one or both modules. Workshop A features the composers Michael Beil (Germany), Edith Canat de Chizy (France), Agustí Charles (Spain) and Misato Mochizuki (Japan) as well as the ensembles Trio Accanto (Germany/Switzerland/UK), Ensemble Via Nova (Germany), Broken Frames Syndicate (Germany) and Ensemble Suono Giallo (Italy). Workshop B is led by composers Ann Cleare (Ireland), Isabel Mundry (Germany) and José María Sánchez-Verdú (Spain/Germany) with Schallfeld Ensemble (Austria) and asLan Ensemble (Spain). In addition, the composers Raquel García Tomás, Enno Poppe and Elena Rykova give lectures on their work.

The workshop on improvisation is led by the Danish saxophonist and composer Lotte Anker and consists of three working sessions and a final concert. Lotte Anker also gives a concert in collaboration with other improvisation artists.

Led by Christian Dierstein (percussion), Nicolas Hodges (piano) and Marcus Weiss (saxophone), the instrumentalist workshops offer young musicians the opportunity to expand their knowledge of contemporary techniques and repertoire for their instrument and to participate in a final concert as part of Mixtur 2022. The percussion workshop focuses on Persephassa for six percussionists as a tribute to Iannis Xeankis.
