Zagreb Music Biennale 2025
Croatian Composers' Society, Zagreb (HR)
Founded in 1961, the Zagreb Music Biennale is a leading international festival for contemporary music where both established and emerging artists perform to contribute to the further development of the music sector. The 2025 edition, which is themed Broken Relationships and supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, presents over 30 events ranging from classical and experimental music to installations, ballet and opera.
The festival invites international artists and offers local audiences and artists the opportunity to engage with contemporary work from a variety of cultures. This intercultural exchange is of particular importance in the post-COVID world and in the context of ongoing societal change in Croatia, where increasing immigration is transforming the cultural landscape.
By fostering multicultural, interdisciplinary and cross-generational dialogue, the Zagreb Music Biennale seeks to reflect and respond to these societal changes. By partnering with international organisations and working with ensembles and institutions from countries such as Finland, Belgium, Hong Kong, Spain and Canada, the festival seeks to sustain the life of new works beyond their premieres and integrate them into the broader canon of contemporary music.
