New Release: HEART CORE by Mirela Ivičević
28.8.2026
HEART CORE, with works by Mirela Ivičević, has been released by Prospero Classical. Ivičević was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Composer Prize in 2021. The album brings together four works composed in recent years, offering a comprehensive insight into Ivičević’s body of work. Three pieces were recorded by Vienna-based Black Page Orchestra, of which the composer is a co-founder. The program is rounded out by a recording by Luxembourg’s United Instruments of Lucilin.
All four compositions impressively demonstrate how Ivičević takes a clear stand as a committed, politically engaged artist. Her works address war, violence, and oppression, giving a voice to their victims. In his essay on Ivičević, Andreas Karl describes her music as “emphatic sonic fiction”—a narrative form that emerges from the contextualization of diverse materials, with all their associations and contradictions. The result is remarkably immediate and vivid music that neither sugarcoats nor obscures anything, but instead directly confronts the listener with the conflicts and contradictions of our present.
HEART CORE is the second release produced in collaboration between the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and Prospero Classical. Upcoming releases will feature works by Composer Prize recipients Mikel Urquiza, Kitty Xiao, and Bethan Morgan-Williams.
